AN INSIDER’S GUIDE

story by HANNAH NICHOLS

It seems the secret of Fripp Island is out! This quiet coastal community attracts families of all sizes looking for tranquility, safety, and fun. Read on to see why Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort should be on your shortlist of staycation ideas.

Fripp Island, situated just 18 miles outside of Beaufort, is the most seaward of South Carolina’s islands. Fripp Island is as close to a tropical paradise as you can get without heading outside the continental United States. Over 3,000 acres of scenic coastline and marshes await you here. Fripp Island is a designated wildlife sanctuary and features an amazing array of services and recreational opportunities. It is incredibly important to note, however, that Fripp Island is a private community. You will not be able to access the island without having reservations to stay, but that just makes it the perfect getaway destination!

WHERE TO STAY
Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort has a variety of rental options no matter what size home you’re searching for. The resort offers additional value to its guests by including guest cards with each direct booking, so guests can access all of the amenities Fripp Island Resort has to offer, including restaurants, golf, racquet club, marina, pools, and more!

Condos — Condos are a popular rental option due to their affordability, range of sizes, and various locations around the island. Try one of the Captain John Fripp Villas if you like to be close to the action. These central one-to-four-bedroom units are conveniently located near restaurants, bars, pools, and, of course, the beautiful beach. Looking for a quieter location? Try the New Haven complex on the North end of the island for a serene stay with amazing sunrise views!

Sunsuites — The Sunsuites are the closest you can get to a hotel on Fripp Island. The Sunsuites building sits centrally on the island between the beach and the Olympic Pool. These one-bedroom efficiency units offer the essentials for the guest on the go.

Houses — With several vacation rental homes on Fripp, there’s bound to be one that meets your needs. Whether you’re looking for an oceanfront oasis or a private villa with your own pool, the options are endless. Rent a golf cart, park your car for the entirety of your stay, and enjoy Fripp Island like a local!

WHAT TO DO
Golf — Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort hosts two championship 18-hole courses. Ocean Creek is located on the marsh side of the island, showcasing lagoons and the sweeping coastal plain, while Ocean Point offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean from almost every hole. Fripp Island’s exceptional tropical climate makes it enjoyable to play year-round.

Fish — The proximity of Fripp Island to South Carolina’s artificial reef system and the Gulf Stream make it a popular fishing spot for locals and visitors alike! Grab a fishing charter out of our full-service marina, or do a little crabbing off of Wardle’s Landing, the local pier.

Rent a bike from Excursions and explore every corner of the island, or do our self-guided scavenger hunt: the Turtles of Tarpon. Can you find all 11 turtle statues?

Enjoy the water — The simplest things are often the finest: Fripp Island offers three and a half miles of pristine, unobscured coastline, so grab your umbrella and a book to pass the day away. If salt water is not your thing, Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort has five outdoor pool complexes where you can kick back and relax.

WHERE TO EAT
Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort requires guest cards to access amenities, including on-island dining. Luckily, these are included when you book direct, so you can enjoy these outstanding options for those nights you don’t feel like cooking!

Ocean Point Grille — Located on the Ocean Point course, the Ocean Point Grille is open year-round and offers the most breakfast and lunch options to be found south of Hunting Island. Grab an iced coffee before your morning tee time, or relax with a burger and beer after you’ve finished your game.

Bonito Boathouse — Perched at the end of the Fripp Island Marina is the Bonito Boathouse, a casual seafood restaurant with waterfront views. The fried seafood platter is a staple, but you can also grab steaks and pasta here while watching the best sunsets over the water.

No matter how you choose to spend your time at Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort, you’re sure to have a great stay! Learn more at www.frippislandresort.com.
