BEAUFORT COUNTY YOUTH CONFERENCE CELEBRATES 30TH YEAR

The Beaufort County Youth Conference, an annual conference planned by teens for teens, celebrates its 30th year on September 24, 2022. It targets middle and high school students, grades 6th-12th. This year’s theme is “Through Our Eyes… R.O.A.R. (Redefining Our Actions and Responsibilities)”.

Due to Covid-19, the past two conferences were held virtually. This year’s conference is also virtual. Despite not being face to face, virtual has been successful with having students interactively engaged.

The objective of the Beaufort County Youth Conference is to provide evidence-based practices, user-friendly information, and materials, designed to strengthen and enhance the social and emotional skills of middle and high school students. The conference is under the umbrella of Carae’s Lowcountry Modeling, founded in 1992 by Mrs. Carrie Major, a youth and community advocate. Over the past 30 years, she, along with the conference’s Steering Committee have worked diligently to keep the conference functioning as a vital service for the youth of Beaufort County and surrounding areas.

Sponsors for the Beaufort County Youth Conference include: The Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce, Beaufort County School District, individuals, organizations, local churches, businesses, sororities, and fraternities.
