Conroy Center Hosts Open Mic Night, Writing Class, and Visiting Author Event in June
The nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center is open for free guided tours of exhibits related to the writing and teaching life of bestselling author Pat Conroy from Thursday through Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m., at 601 Bladen Street in downtown Beaufort. In June, the Conroy Center will host an Open Mic Night reading by local authors with special guest novelist Helen P. Bradley, author of Breach of Trust; a family stories writing workshop by local author Estelle Ford-Williamson, author of Rising Fawn; and a visiting author program with Polly Stewart, author of The Good Ones, in conversation with retired FBI Special Agent Dana Ridenour, author of the Lexi Montgomery Series. Open Mic Night, Featuring Helen P. Bradley, author of Breach of Trust

The Conroy Center holds a monthly Open Mic Night on the 2nd Thursday of each month, in partnership with the SC Writers Association. Local writers can sign up just prior to the start of the event to read from their work for 3 minutes each. The evening ends with an extended reading from a featured author. This month’s featured writer is Helen P. Bradley, author of the debut novel Breach of Trust. Helen lives in Savannah, where she has worked as an advocate for crime victims. Her novel draws on her personal and professional experiences. Copies of her new novel will be available for sale and signing.
Writing Family Stories 2, Led by Estelle Ford-Williamson, author of Rising Fawn

Local novelist and memoirist Estelle Ford-Williamson will lead a follow-up to her popular writing family stories workshop. Attendance in the previous class is not required to attend this workshop. The class includes writing prompts to help guide the writing of stories about your family, as well as how to structure family stories into a cohesive narrative, and a brief overview of some publishing opportunities for family stories. Participants will also have the opportunity to share writing and receive feedback.
