Beaufort Twilight Run
The 14th Annual Beaufort Twilight Run (BTR) running festival holds immense significance for Riverview Charter School, serving as its largest fundraiser of the year. This community-oriented event not only promotes health and wellness but also fosters a sense of unity among participants while contributing to the school’s Capstone Fundraiser. The USATF-sanctioned running festival will once again take place around Habersham this March and includes the following events: ¼ mile Kids Fun Run, a youth 1-Mile Run, a 5K Run, a 5K Walk, an 8K Run, a 10-mile Run, and a 13.1 Challenge – a 5K + a 10-Mile Run. If you are not participating in the races, watching and cheering on your favorite participant is just as fun! Live music, local gourmet food trucks, and Habersham restaurants are open during and after the races. Be sure to stay for the special after-party featuring “Broke Locals,” which begins after the final runner crosses the finish line.
WHAT IS RIVERVIEW?
Riverview Charter School was the first charter school in Beaufort, SC, and the only charter school sponsored by the Beaufort County School District. Riverview is a public school and does not charge for admission nor have any admission requirements other than residing in Beaufort County. Riverview opened in 2009 and reached full capacity during the 2019-2020 school year, serving just over 700 students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
At each grade level, students are required to meet proficiency in state mandated standards that are heavily focused on skills and content. To enrich the curriculum, Riverview teachers write integrated units of study centered around “Big Ideas” to help students see that life is not arranged by content areas – that it’s interconnected.
To further help our students “Connect the Dots,” Riverview students embark on a nine-year journey that consists of three cycles. Each cycle, K-2, 3-5, and 6-8, is guided by conceptual themes that link the curriculum with the development of the child. The child as an individual in an expanding social network—community, culture, and world.
FIELD AND CAPSTONE EXPERIENCES
Part of Riverview’s larger vision for students is to provide field experiences that extend the walls of learning beyond the classroom. In addition to the common threads, each cycle culminates in Capstone Field Experiences and projects at the end of second, fifth, and eighth Grade. The field experiences are designed to allow students and teachers to use place-based learning to enrich the curriculum and engage students in real-world, authentic experiences. These field experiences will build off the “Big Ideas” explored in each grade level and the conceptual themes of Community, Culture, and World. Students participate in fundraising for their capstone field trips, and each trip is a celebratory culmination of the students’ growth throughout the cycle of three years. The BTR helps sponsor the Capstone Fund that was created to reduce the financial burden of these field trips for our families, so that all students may have the opportunity to participate in these once-in-a-lifetime learning experiences.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, Riverview families, and community participation during the last 14 years, the Beaufort Twilight Run has raised over $560,000, helping to minimize the financial impact of our Capstone experiences on our families.
Shelby Sauls, BTR Volunteer and Team Orange Liaison, explains that the impact of the Beaufort Twilight Run goes beyond the Riverview Charter School. Participating in or supporting the BTR is a celebration of fitness and a meaningful contribution to the growth and success of our entire community.
