Taylor’s Landscape Supply and Nursery, Inc., has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2004. What started as a small pine straw distribution business in Lexington, South Carolina, has grown into a thriving multi-location business offering an extensive array of landscaping supplies and services. Under the guidance of founder Gerrick Taylor, the company has not only expanded its product offerings but also earned a reputation for delivering top-notch products while contributing positively to the community.
THE HUMBLE BEGINNINGS OF TAYLOR’S LANDSCAPE SUPPLY
The story of Taylor’s Landscape Supply begins in 2004 when Gerrick Taylor, a local high school football coach, decided to turn his passion for community service into a business. At the time, the business was known as Taylor’s Pine Straw, and its sole focus was distributing high-quality pine straw to the local area. Gerrick’s mission was simple: to provide the community with a premium product that would enhance the beauty of their landscapes and yards. With a commitment to excellence and a personal touch, the company quickly became known for its reliability and exceptional service.
The foundation for the company was built on a philosophy of providing not only excellent products but also great customer service. Taylor’s Landscape Supply’s primary goal was clear: to meet the landscaping needs of homeowners, contractors, and the local community by delivering superior products with a personal touch.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
In the early years of operation, Taylor’s Pine Straw quickly grew in popularity due to its commitment to high-quality products. However, the company’s vision did not stop at pine straw. Over time, Taylor’s expanded its inventory to include other essential landscaping materials, such as mulch, sod, and gravel and then added a nursery to the Bluffton and Beaufort locations. This expansion was not just about meeting the immediate demands of the market, but also about providing customers with a one-stop-shop for all their landscaping needs.
Gerrick’s vision for Taylor’s Landscape Supply and Nursery extended beyond merely growing the business. He wanted the company to be a place of integrity, values, and community involvement. This vision led to the development of four core values that have guided the company through its growth over the years:
1. A God-Honoring Business: Taylor’s Landscape Supply is not just a business but also a family-oriented place of employment that seeks to honor God in everything it does. One of the ways Taylor’s demonstrates this commitment is by being closed on Sundays to allow employees to worship and spend quality time with their families. This decision reflects the company’s focus on balancing work and life, and its recognition of the importance of community and faith.
2. Commitment to Quality: From its very beginning, Taylor’s has focused on providing high-quality products, services, and team members. The company’s commitment to quality can be seen in everything it does—from the products they sell to the employees they hire and the services they provide. Taylor’s remains dedicated to sourcing and offering only the best products available in the industry.
3. Community Investment: Taylor’s believes that a successful business should give back to the community. This belief has been a cornerstone of the company’s philosophy, as they work to develop meaningful, long-term relationships with both customers and the community. Whether through sponsorships, volunteering, or other community-focused initiatives, Taylor’s actively invests in the areas it serves, ensuring that it remains a good neighbor and community partner.
4. Building a Respected Brand: Over the years, Taylor’s has worked tirelessly to build a respected name in the landscaping supply industry. This reputation is built on the quality of products they offer and the way they treat their customers. Taylor’s strives to make each customer feel valued and important, ensuring that they have a positive experience every time they visit or interact with the business.
THE MOVE TO BLUFFTON: EXPANDING THE BUSINESS
As demand for the company’s products grew, Gerrick Taylor made the decision to move the business to Bluffton to further expand. He purchased a small plot of land, which provided the perfect location for his growing business. At this point, Taylor’s expanded its product offerings to include not only pine straw but also mulch and sod, which could be delivered or picked up by customers. The addition of these materials allowed Taylor’s to serve a wider range of customers, including both residential and commercial landscapers.
Taylor’s Landscape Supply expanded rapidly, quickly gaining a reputation as a reliable supplier for landscaping materials. But Taylor’s didn’t stop there—realizing that customers often needed trees and plants to complete their landscaping projects, the company opened a small nursery to meet this demand. What began as a modest nursery offering a limited selection of plants soon grew into a flourishing part of the business.
FROM ONE LOCATION TO MANY
As the business continued to grow, Gerrick Taylor’s family was deeply involved in its operations. Attracting loyal customers and fostering relationships with local contractors helped to drive further expansion. It wasn’t long before Taylor’s Landscape Supply opened additional locations in Beaufort, Hilton Head, Summerville, and Savannah, Georgia, bringing their products and services to an even broader audience.
Taylor’s currently has five locations, each offering a wide variety of landscaping goods and services, such as deliveries, palm tree installations, and a wide range of plant and landscaping supplies. Whether you are a homeowner looking for advice on choosing the perfect tree or shrub, or a contractor needing bulk materials delivered to a job site, Taylor’s Landscape Supply is equipped to meet your needs.
A FOCUS ON EMPLOYMENT AND EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT
One of the core values of Taylor’s Landscape Supply and Nursery is to offer employment opportunities to anyone interested in learning about plants, trees, and landscaping. The company is proud to employ a diverse group of individuals, ranging from high school students to retirees, who share a passion for the industry. By providing training and growth opportunities, Taylor’s has created a welcoming work environment that fosters learning and development.
A testament to the company’s commitment to its employees is Zack Howard, a former high school football player of Gerrick’s, who has been with the company from the very beginning. Zack’s dedication to Taylor’s Landscape Supply has led him to his current position as Chief Operations Officer. Other key team members include Olivia Root-Chief Development Officer, Angela Hernandez-Bookkeeper, Robert Smith-Savannah Store Manager, Christine Price-Summerville Store Manager, Kendall Watson-Hilton Head Store Manager, Brett Romines-Beaufort Store Manager, and Ryan Bishop-Trucking Site Manager. Each of these individuals plays a crucial role in helping Taylor’s continue to grow and serve the community.
The future of Taylor’s Landscape Supply and Nursery looks bright. As the company looks to the future, it remains grounded in its core values of quality, community, and service. For years to come, Taylor’s hopes to continue serving the Lowcountry, building on its legacy of excellence, and remaining a trusted name in landscaping supplies and services.
