As we welcome 2025, there%u2019s an undeniable sense of renewal %u2014 a time for fresh starts, exciting ventures, and celebrating the rich stories that make our community shine. This month, we%u2019re diving into tales of new beginnings, heartfelt legacies, and extraordinary local achievements. We%u2019re thrilled to highlight local chef Tyger Snell, whose beloved food truck, Belly Full by Tyger, has become a culinary delight for fried seafood and his specialty, torqued chicken or turkey, served with rice and vegetables. Tyger%u2019s dream of expanding his passion has come to fruition with the opening of his first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Yemassee. Stop by and savor the dishes that have captured the hearts of so many. The incredible work of the Friends of Fort Fremont will inspire history buffs and community advocates. This dedicated group continues their mission to preserve the historic fort and enhances the site for visitors to appreciate its storied past.  On January 17, let your soul be uplifted by Trey McLaughlin & The Sounds of Zamar, who will bring their dynamic gospel harmonies to the USCB Center for the Arts. This promises to be an evening filled with joy, inspiration, and powerful music that moves the heart. In another nod to our rich history, the Historic Beaufort Foundation proudly presents Hamar%u2019s Cup, an exquisite artifact with a fascinating backstory. This silver trophy, steeped in maritime history, represents a time when sailing and camaraderie were central to Lowcountry life. Be sure to visit the Foundation to learn more about its significance. We%u2019re also proud to share the story of Beaufort native Shae Chambers Helms, whose family roots trace back seven generations. Her deep connection to our town and its traditions exemplifies the enduring spirit of Beaufort%u2014where the past and present intertwine beautifully. The Pat Conroy Literary Center continues to be a hub for creativity and connection. On January 11, in conjunction with DAYLO, they%u2019re kicking off their Silent Book Club Beaufort, a welcoming space for readers to come together and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading. Additionally, the DAYLO program has been honored with the SCLA Intellectual Freedom Award for its outstanding work, raising awareness of intellectual freedom and censorship issues.
